WHY IT IS NEEDED ?

If we connect two computers,  they will create a NETWORK. The main benifit of a creating network between computers is "DATA SHARING". We can share files and folders. We can share printers. We can play LAN games. Here are the steps to connect two windows computers.

Things You Will Need:
1. A Crossover cable – This is a Cat5 Ethernet Cable that the wires have been switched around to allow two computers to talk to each other. This Ethernet crossover cable is a type of Ethernet cable which is used to connect computing devices together directly.

2. Ethernet adapter or in simple terms the port on the back side of your system where you will insert this cable.

Steps:
STEP 1. Connect the two computers with the crossover cable.

STEP 2. Now you have to set IP address on both computers. To do this Goto Start > Control Panel > Network Connections ( You can switch to classic view if you are unable see network connections ).

STEP 3. Look for your Local Area Connection ethernet adapter, then right click on it and choose properties.

STEP 4. Select Internet Protocol TCP/IP and choose properties.

STEP 5. Set the IP as 192.168.1.5 or something like that and the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 on the first computer and 192.168.1.6 on the second with same subnet mask.

STEP 6. click OK and OK/Close again.

NOTE: If you want to share your files then, right click on any folder or you can select drive also and choose sharing to make them shared.

You can also do this with printers to be able to print from one computer even when the printer is connected to the other computer.

If you are using Windows 7 and Windows 8 : Then the steps are similar, you can find your Local Area Connection or Network Connection in Network and sharing centre.
